    Mrs. Elizabeth Anne Schmidt Sargent

    March 10, 1921 - March 21, 2014

    On Friday, March 21, 2014 at Dadeville Healthcare Center, Elizabeth Anne Schmidt Sargent passed through the veil and returned to her Heavenly Father.  She was born on March 10, 1921 in Hackensack, New Jersey and was the oldest daughter of William George and Grace Henderson Schmidt.  Elizabeth married John Edward Sargent of Camp Hill, Alabama on October 2, 1951 in Decatur, Georgia and has been married to him for 62 years.   Elizabeth was raised on Long Island, New York in the village of Floral Park.  She was a member of the Honor Society when she graduated from Sewanhaka High School in 1939.  She graduated from Limestone College, Gaffney, South Carolina in 1943 with a Bachelor of Art Degree.  During World War II, Elizabeth worked for the Long Island Railroad and Grumman Aircraft, where she installed Plexiglas windows in TBF Torpedo Bombers.  After WWII, she attended Columbia University where she earned a degree in Occupational Therapy and became a Registered Occupational Therapist in 1948.  She later worked at Lyman Ward Military Academy as a seamstress.  She was a member of the Worthwhile Homemakers Club of Camp Hill.   Mrs. Sargent was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and taught Primary for several years. She is survived by husband, John Edward Sargent of Camp Hill; daughters, Meredith S. Williams (Tim) of Raleigh, NC and Laura S. Mathis (Steve) of Cookville, TX; sons, Thomas Sargent (Lynn) of Dadeville and William Sargent (Carol) of Ardmore; 11 Grandchildren; 8 Great-Grandchildren; and sister, Carolyn Battey of Raleigh, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral service will be on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel of Langley Funeral Home. Branch President Ron Anderson and Bro. Terry Ermer will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Camp Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm at Langley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Lake Martin Hospice, 201 Mariarden Road, Dadeville, AL 36853 or to Lake Martin Humane Society, PO Box 634, Alexander City, AL 35011.
