Mr. Virgil Mayberry
November 5, 1931 - February 10, 2020
Staff Sergeant Virgil Mayberry of Waverly, Alabama was born to the late William Guy Mayberry and Miriam Johnnie (Calhoun) Mayberry on November 5, 1931 and passed away at Russell Medical Center on February 10, 2020. He was 88 years old. Virgil was retired from the United States Air Force. During his military career, he served in the Korean War. Virgil was an excellent engine mechanic for B52 Bombers and KC135 Tanker planes and took great pride in his work. He was a proud American and was honored to be part of the United States Air Force. After his retirement, Virgil worked at West Point Pepperell Mill. Virgil was an avid reader and his passion for learning was apparent in his teachings to all that loved and spent time with him. Virgil was a big advocate of history and science and enjoyed collecting rocks and gemstones. Most importantly, he was a humble, respectful man and a man of his word. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruby Taylor Mayberry. His life teachings will live on through the ones that so proudly call him “Paw-Paw.” Funeral Services will be Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel of Langley Funeral Home. Rev. Scott Jordan will officiate. Burial will follow in the Waverly Cemetery. The family receive friends on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 from 2:00 pm to 2:45 pm at Langley Funeral Home.
