Funeral service for Mrs. Virginia Collum Stroud, 84, of Dadeville, will be Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Union United Methodist Church. Rev. Dana Miller and Rev. Phillip Nelson will officiate. She will lie In State at the church for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Union United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Langley Funeral Home. Mrs. Stroud passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Community Hospital. She was born on July 7, 1929 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama to Rufus Earnest Nelson and Clara Bell Collum Nelson. She was a member of Union United Methodist Church. Mrs. Stroud worked in Printing Services at Auburn University and retired after over 20 years of service. She enjoyed working outside and had a great sense of humor. She and Mr. Stroud had enjoyed fishing and playing cards together. Mrs. Stroud loved being with her family most of all and spending time with her grandkids and supporting them in all their sports and activities. She is survived by her daughter, Hilda Rothstein (Jeff) of Jackson’s Gap; son, James E. Stroud (Donna) of Dadeville; grandchildren, Debbie Gregory (Jeff) of Tuscaloosa and Lanier Burton (Jennifer), Amy Jaye (Gary Baker), and Jason Rothstein all of Dadeville; great-grandchildren, Hunter Gregory, Hannah Gregory, Abby Burton, Cal Burton, Adam Burton, Kelsey Jaye, Katlyn Jaye, and Bentley Baker; sister, Frances Johns and the late C.J. Johns of Alexander City; brothers, J.W. Nelson (Frances), R.E. Nelson and the late Linda Nelson, Cary Lee Nelson (Myra), and Billy Wayne Nelson (Rhonda) all of Dadeville; and sisters-in-law, Floyce Nelson of Notasulga and Laverne Nelson of Dadeville. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 51 years, Howard James Stroud; beloved grandson, James Clinton Stroud; sister, Clara Johnson and her husband Cecil; and brothers, L.V.
