Mr. Benjamin Harold Newman's Obituary
Graveside Service for Mr. Benjamin Harold Newman, 72, of Waverly, Alabama will be Friday, February 17, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Canaan Cemetery in Waverly. Rev. Keith Davis will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Langley Funeral Home.
Benjy went to be with his Lord and Savior on the morning of Tuesday, February 14, 2023. He was born on July 16, 1950 in Lee County Hospital in Opelika, Alabama to Harold Wood Newman, Sr. and Mary Ann Robinson Newman. Benjy was raised in Waverly, Alabama, attended Waverly School, Camp Hill High School, and graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Business Management.
Benjy started his own construction company as a General Contractor and Stone Mason in 1977. He built and designed many homes, rock fireplaces, landscapes, and exteriors of both residential and commercial properties around the Lake Martin area adding his own unique touch. Benjy was a gifted and talented artist with many paintings, sculptures, and carvings. He was also a taxidermist and had a passion for the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He loved many types of music, dancing, and was always the “life of the party”.
He is survived by his daughters, Virginia Newman of Chelsea, Alabama, and Caroline Fisher (Andrew) of Westport, Connecticut; grandchildren, Grant Fisher and Stella Fisher; sister, Barbara Ann Joyner (Jon) of Lynchburg, Virginia; brothers, Robert "Bobby" Newman and Berryman "Berry" Newman both of Waverly, Alabama; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, William "Billy" Newman and Harold "Buddy" Newman, Jr.
