Bettye Jean East's Obituary
Funeral service for Mrs. Bettye Jean East, 83, of Dadeville, will be Sunday, November 9, 2014 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Dadeville. Rev. Lowell Ledbetter will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dadeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 8, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Langley Funeral Home.
Mrs. East passed away peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on April 9, 1931 in Montgomery, Alabama to Noah Archie Smith and Genie Inez Grant Smith. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Dadeville which she loved dearly. She was a past member of First Baptist Church Choir, The Delphic Club, The Worth While Club, and Canasta Club of Dadeville. Mrs. East graduated from BRHS in 1949 and attended the University of Montevallo. She enjoyed spending time with her friends but loved being with her family more than anything in the world.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean East Gravette (Joe) of Dadeville; sons, Joe Bernard East, Jr. (Lisa) of Dadeville and John Jeffrey East (Mildred) of Westfield, MA; grandchildren, Jessica Gravette Nickens (John), Jennifer Gravette Folds (Brent), Joanna Elizabeth Gravette, Robert Justin East, Jarrod Matthew East, Nathan Daniel Bass, and Travis Lee Bass; great-grandchildren, Nora Kate Nickens, Madilyn Elizabeth Folds, and Hannah Olivia Hume.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Bernard East, Sr.; her parents; and sister, Carolyn Smith Wilson.
