Mr. John Byron Smith's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mr. John Byron Smith, 81, of Dadeville, Alabama, will be Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 12:00 pm at the Sardis United Methodist Church. Rev. Stephen King and Dr. Robert Riegle will officiate. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at Sardis United Methodist Church.
Mr. Smith passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Russell Medical. He was born on March 12, 1936 in Eclectic, Alabama to William Vachel Smith and Rosa Colley Smith. He was an active member of Sardis United Methodist Church. He worked for 35 years for Coca Cola in Opelika and retired as a Route Supervisor. Mr. Smith was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed turkey hunting and coon hunting. He raised championship treeing walker hounds for many years. He was an entrepreneur and he and his wife owned Smith Grocery in Eclectic and Smith’s Tree Farm in Opelika. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and provider for his family.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeanelle Stroud Smith of Dadeville; daughter, Amanda Hoffman (Bryan) of Dadeville; son, John Byron Smith, Jr. (Lynn) of Dadeville; Son-in-law, Dean Bledsoe of Dadeville; grandchildren, Shelton Bledsoe and Shelby Bledsoe; Sister, Mary Rose Smith (Charles Albert) of Opelika; sister-in-law, Martha Davis Smith of Eclectic; special friends, Dianne Carlton, Kay Funderburk, and Terri Brooks; special caregivers, Jamie Lambreth and Cassie Harrell; and special classmates of Elmore Co. High, Class of 1954.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lei Smith Bledsoe; and brother, Clifton Cary Smith.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Sardis United Methodist Church, Lei Smith Bledsoe Fund, c/o Treasurer, PO Box 162, Notasulga, AL 36866.
