Donald G Black's Obituary
Donald G. Black passed away Tuesday morning, joining his loving wife, Martha Fay, in heaven. Age 89, Donald lived a life of respect, awe, and admiration as a father, grandfather, brother, friend, principal, teacher, and proud U.S. Naval veteran. No matter the role, Donald remained the same in his steadfast dedication, support, and kindness toward others. One thing that Donald loved most was to watch his Auburn Tigers play. Through thick and thin, he remained a faithful Tiger fan, loyal and true.
Donald Black was born on February 16, 1932 in Washington, Georgia. Shortly after birth, he moved to Dadeville, Alabama where he remained until his death. He attended Tallapoosa County High School and later, Dadeville High School, graduating in 1950. He continued his education at Jacksonville State University, Alabama Polytechnic Institute and Auburn University where he received his bachelors and masters degrees. As a proud community leader, Donald served as an educator and as the first principal of Dadeville Elementary School for 22 years. He was part of the U.S. Navy from 1951- 1955. During his time in the Navy, Donald circled the globe on a world tour - returning with countless mementos and stories that delighted his grandchildren - and received a medal for Good Conduct.
Donald was married to Martha Fay Davis Black for 63 years. They had two children, Donna and Jay. Donald was a life long member of First Baptist Church of Dadeville where he served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as a deacon, teacher, and in many other capacities.
He is survived by his sister, Billie Nell Sanford; his children, Donna Mechele Black Abernathy (Mark) and Donald Jay Black (Susan); his grandchildren, Matthew Alan Abernathy (Leigh), Andrew Mark Abernathy(Lindsey), Michelle Abernathy Hughes, Shane Donald Black, and Caroline Denise Bauldree (Nolen); and his great-grandchildren, Matthew Barrett Abernathy, James Fitz Abernathy, Andrew Abram Abernathy, Margot Elise Hughes, and Alan Briggs Abernathy.
