Mr. Donald "Donnie" Joe Davis' Obituary
Funeral Service for Donald "Donnie" Joe Davis, 68, of Opelika, Alabama, will be Friday, September 1, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Chapel of Langley Funeral Home. Dr. Rusty Sowell will officiate. Burial will follow in the Camp Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Langley Funeral Home.
Donnie was born January 24, 1955, to Joe and Midge Davis, and was a native resident of Camp Hill, Alabama, and he passed away on August 22, 2023. Known for his friendly demeanor, passionate spirit, and loving heart, he touched many lives throughout his remarkable 68 years.
Donnie pursued his educational endeavors with fervor and dedication, earning a B.S. in aviation management from Auburn University, followed by a B.S.N. and Masters in nursing from Southern Union College. His thirst for knowledge and dedication to his chosen fields were evident in his professional life.
Donnie's work history was varied and impactful, reflecting his diverse interests and dedication to his community. He spent several years working in the family-owned business, Davis Hardware and Supply, Inc., and served as a Loan Officer for Camp Hill Bank for a short period. His dedication to public service was evident in his volunteer work for the Camp Hill Emergency Ambulance Service. Donnie's true calling, however, was in the field of nursing. He served as an emergency room nurse for over 20 years at East Alabama Medical Center, a role that he embraced wholeheartedly and reflected positively as a professional nurse trainer, even after retirement.
An active member of the National Emergency Room Nurses Association and the Opelika Arts Association, Donnie also supported the Tallapoosa County Historical Association as a benefactor. He had a driving passion for travel, both domestically and internationally, and was an avid lover of ornamental horticulture. His greenhouse and gardens were a testament to his green thumb and love for nature. Additionally, Donnie found joy in singing, both in church choirs and community theater, showcasing his talent, spirituality, and zest for life.
Donnie is survived by his brother, Dennis Floyd Davis (Christopher) of Jacksons Gap, Alabama; Dixie Bongolan of Maui, Hawaii; close personal friend, Paul Tate of Greenville, Alabama; and a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Donnie's life was rich in experiences, friendships, and love. His memory will be cherished by those who knew him, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have been a part of his journey. Donnie's life was a testament to the power of passion, love, and dedication, and he will be greatly missed.
