Edward "Ed" Earl Hamby passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Brookwood Medical Center. He was born on January 17, 1941 in Camp Hill, Alabama to Lucius Hamby and Lorene Pyron Hamby. Ed was the #1 military man who served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corp. His devotion continued with participation in the Marine Corp League meetings. Ed was a strong and faithful Christian who attended First Baptist Church of Dadeville. He enjoyed anything in the outdoors or on the water including fishing, working in the yard, and boating. When he wasn't outdoors, Ed could be found putting puzzles together or quickly solving word puzzles. Above all, he was a loving family man. Known as the "root" of the family, Ed was a strong father figure to his children and his grandchildren. "PawPaw" would always be the first one to support his grandsons, and he'd be the last one to hug you and tell you, "I love you," on the way out the door. His love for his faith, his country, and his family will always be remembered.
Ed is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Hamby; daughter, Kelly (Kris) Eddins; grandsons, Cooper Torgerson, Hunter (Leslie) Torgerson; great-granddaughter, Oaklynn Torgerson; sisters, Shirley Blackwelder, June Wright, Carolyn Patterson; brothers, Terry Hamby, Neal Hamby, Larry Hamby, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Edward Brandon Hamby, parents, Lucius and Lorene Hamby; brothers, Bud Hamby, Jimmy Hamby; and sister, Bobby Lashley.
Langley Funeral Home is honored to serve the Hamby family.
