Mr. Gordon Roy McEune Ware's Obituary
Graveside Service for Mr. Gordon McEune Ware, 83, of Dadeville, Alabama will be Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Dadeville City Cemetery. Dr. Ben Hayes will officiate.
Mr. Ware passed away on Monday, August 22, 2022 at Lake Martin Community Hospital. He was born on July 7, 1939 in St. Albans, England to John Frederick McEune and Susan Jane Verlinder McEune. After the death of his parents, Gordon, being the youngest of seven children, came to the United States in 1951 to live with his sister. He was later adopted by Marvin Douglas Ware and Mable Vivian Ware. His adoption was finalized on August 11, 1955, and he was granted U.S. citizenship on April 5, 1957. Gordon was a graduate of Tuskegee High School, attended Marion Military Institute for one year, and then graduated from Massey Draughon Business College. Most of his working career was in the family-owned NAPA business in Dadeville where he retired in 1999. Gordon was a member of Dadeville First Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon in 1975. As long as his health permitted, he supported the church activities, especially those for senior adults. He was a member of the church choir for more than forty years. He was also a twenty-five-year member of Dadeville Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marcia Miller Ware; special niece, Shelia Godfrey (Tom); and nephews, Roger Hornsby (Linda), Steve Hornsby (Noreen), and Mike Hornsby (Paula).
He was preceded in death by his parents and his adoptive parents; sisters, Jean McEune of England, Jane McEune Tichborne (Walter) of Australia and Marjorie McEune Hornsby (Huston) of Tuskegee; brothers, Norman McEune, Ronald McEune (Sylvia) and George McEune all of England; nephews, Nigel Hornsby, and Patrick Hornsby; and niece, Susan Hornsby.
