Mr. Ivey John Marcell II's Obituary
A Celebration of Life for Mr. Ivey John Marcell, II, 83, of Dadeville, Alabama, will be held at 5:00 pm on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Lake Community Church. Pastor Chad Harrison will officiate.
John passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Born on August 26, 1941 in New Iberia Parish, Louisiana, he was the son of Mr. Ivy "Duck" John Marcel, Sr. and Mrs. Audrey McMakin Marcel. He was an active member of Lake Community Church and lived a life that reflected his faith in every step. John was able to experience the Walk to Emmaus which is an experience that had a powerful impact on his spiritual life. He truly was a man of God and treated everyone like a brother and sister regardless of their background.
John was the type of person that never met a stranger and would become a friend to all that met him. His genuine kindness and ability to see the good in others lifted the mood of any person he came into contact with. His life reflected the true meaning of a 'servant's heart' through fundraising for Non-Profits ,helping those in need, and his honorable service in the United States Air Force. John approached everything with a jovial spirit, an infectious smile, and good ole Cajun humor. He never forgot his Louisiana roots, letting the Good Times Roll at Mardi Gras and his secret gumbo recipe gave a genuine taste of the Cajun life. John was employed with IBM for 27 years as a Marketing Manager and with Auburn University for 22 years as a Mechanical Engineer Technician. A highlight to his career was participating in the Vulcan Space Station payload experiment. His intelligence and innovation helped program the electronics which would become an extremely instrumental part of the project.
In his spare time, John could be found enjoying the simple things in life with his best friend, Rusty, by his side. Together they could be found feeding the deer and birds at their "Bird House" home. They both attended master gardening classes, explored the woods with their grandchildren, and never missed a chance to enjoy a nice walk together, often hand in hand. Nothing brought him greater joy in life than spending time with his daughter Charissa and his grandchildren who lovingly knew him as "Papa." Although he is no longer here physically, there's no doubt that the love he gave left an impact that will never be forgotten by those who knew him.
John is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Eytoyce "Rusty" Marcell; daughters, Charissa (Doug) Reynolds, Deborah Ann Ricks; grandchildren, Tyler James (fiancee, Lisa) Reynolds, Cody James Reynolds, Launa Faith Reynolds, Allie Marie Bailey; sister, Marie "Too Too" (John) Morris; brothers, Matthew Mark (Melanie) Marcel, Luke Philip (Colleen) Marcel; daughter-in-love, Brianna Holloway; and special friends, Speedy & Jean Collins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Samuel "Sammy" Marcel and David Gregory Marcel.
