Mr. Jack Bennett Mayfield, Sr.'s Obituary
Graveside Service for Mr. Jack Mayfield, Sr., 88, of Jacksons Gap, Alabama, will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Waverly Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Langley Funeral Home.
Jack Bennett Mayfield, Sr. passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at his home. Born on May 1, 1936 in Opelika, Alabama, he was the son of Mr. Homer McClendon Mayfield and Mrs. Allie Marshall Mayfield. Jack proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from June 1955 to January 1959. He gave many years of hard work and dedication to Auburn University through his job as a Herdsman and was a former member of the Opelika Masonic Lodge.
Jack was a good-hearted man that never met a stranger and strongly believed that a few great friends were better than a crowd full of good ones. If he wasn't hard at work, you could find him catching up with those friends at the local gas station. Jack was a good ole southern man who loved the simplicities of life-riding on dirt roads, fishing, camping, and working hard for his family. He had a special place in his heart just for his animals, especially his furry partner, "Dog," who brought much joy to his life after their fateful meeting. Jack was very proud of his family and always held close bonds with his siblings throughout the years. He was a loving husband of 56 years, caring father, and fun "granddaddy" to his grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Arnett (Mike) Johnson; sons, Jack Bennett (Dena) Mayfield, Jr., Marshall Edward Mayfield; grandchildren, Lydia (David) Ryan, Jacob (Mollie) Mayfield, John (Kaitlyn) Mayfield, Mary Mayfield, Amy (Stephen) Akers, Toni (James) Spradlin, Tanner Mayfield, Jamie Johnson, Michael (Valerie) Johnson, Jr.; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister, Allie Kate Cox.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Lee Mayfield; son, Terry Eugene Porter; granddaughter, Hannah Mayfield; parents, Homer & Allie Mayfield; and siblings, James Camp Mayfield, Mary Louise Mayfield, Homer Melvin Mayfield, Martha Ennis Mayfield, Jessie Glenn Davis, Charlie Lloyd Mayfield, Ella Elizabeth Parker; Margaret Mayfield Lassetter, Hayward Eugene Mayfield, and Earline Mayfield.
