Mr. James Howard “Jimmy” Graves, Jr.
1931-2015
Graveside service for Mr. James Howard “Jimmy” Graves, Jr., 84, a lifelong resident of Waverly, will be Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 11:00 am at Waverly Cemetery. Rev. Gary Henderson and Rev. Blue Vardaman will officiate. The family will receive friends and family at the Patrick/Graves House following the service.
Mr. Graves passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at Bethany House. He was born on February 28, 1931 in Opelika, Alabama to James Howard Graves, Sr. and Idoline Greene Graves. He was a lifelong active member of Waverly United Methodist Church. He graduated from Auburn High School and attended Auburn University School of Forestry. He was an expert timber man and owned Graves Pulpwood Company for thirty years and managed land and timber his entire life. Mr. Graves is remembered for saying “I want to leave my part of the world better than I found it.”
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Dawson Graves of Waverly, married September 1, 1955; daughter, Carolyn Graves Stubbs (Sid), of Waverly; daughter-in-law, Edith Graves of Waverly; grandchildren, Anna Stubbs, Lara Stubbs, Olivia Graves, Howard Graves, and Will Graves.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Allen Howard Graves; grandchild, Sarah Graves; and two sisters.
The family requests no flowers and memorial contribution be made to Waverly United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 173 Waverly, AL 36879.
