Mrs. Jeanenne D. Whitlock's Obituary
Jeanenne D. Whitlock, age 89, of Ridge Grove, Alabama, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025, after a period of declining health.
Born on December 3, 1935, in Lanett, Alabama, Jeanenne grew up just around the corner from the love of her life, Robert Ronald Whitlock. They married and shared 58 devoted years together until his passing, moving wherever life and love led them—from Florida to Kentucky, Maryland, Georgia, Illinois, Oklahoma, and ultimately back home to Alabama. Jeanenne often said she would go with him anywhere, and she did.
Jeanenne was deeply dedicated to her children. She was preceded in death by her husband Ron, daughter, Ronda Jean Dalenberg, and son-in-law Donald. She is survived by three remaining children: Jonathan Mark Whitlock (Bettina) of Nagold, Germany; Mary Katherine Winkler (John) of Fletcher, North Carolina; and Robert Gordon Whitlock of Ridge Grove, Alabama. She also leaves behind four beloved grandchildren: Hannah Winkler, Timothy Whitlock, Tabea Whitlock, and Ruben Whitlock.
She earned degrees in English and library science from Auburn University and spent much of her career as a librarian and media specialist at Opelika High School in Opelika, Alabama. Her love of books and learning touched countless students and colleagues.
Faith was a cornerstone of Jeanenne’s life. No matter where her family lived, they found a church home, and Jeanenne often served by teaching Sunday school and playing the piano. After settling in Ridge Grove, she continued both ministries for many years at County Line Baptist Church in Dudleyville, Alabama.
Jeanenne cherished her family’s heritage and found deep joy in gathering loved ones around the table, and the piano, especially during the holidays, when laughter echoed, stories flowed, and music played. Her legacy of love, loyalty, and laughter lives on in all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A memorial service will be held at Langley Funeral Home in Dadeville, AL on November 16 at 2:00 pm central time. In honor of Jeanenne’s lifelong commitment to faith and community, donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to County Line Baptist Church (5232 County Road 51, Lafayette, AL 36862).
