Jim White passed away peacefully with his great niece and her husband by his side on Saturday May 9, 2026 at the Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama. He was born on November 2, 1938 in Randolph County, Alabama to Ertis Franklin White and Nellie Ophelia Williams White. Jim was ready and prepared to reunite with his precious wife and his Savior in heaven.
Jim was a dedicated and loving husband to Pat White for 62 years until her death in 2020. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Dadeville for 32 years and a member of the Pat White Sunday School Class which was taught by his beloved wife for over 20 years. Jim was ordained as a deacon in 2010 and served multiple 3 year terms until 2025. He considered the deacon ministry as a call to service. Jim was a strong supporter of Vision 2026 at the First Baptist of Dadeville- a project to expand the children’s facilities, fellowship hall, and sanctuary. He also served on the church finance committee and security committee. Jim faithfully served his church, community, and most importantly, His Savior.
Shortly after their first date in 1958, Jim and Pat married and started their lives together in Griffin, Georgia. After graduating from Atlanta Technical College in 1959 with a degree in mechanical drafting, Jim briefly served in the United States Army (training) with a quick honorable discharge due to bad knees in 1961. Jim then began a long, successful career with Altec Industries. He worked 42 years (1968 - 2010) as a salesman for Altec earning many prestigious awards for sales performance and leadership such as the President’s Club award, the Five Million Dollar Achievement award, and Excellence for Global Rental award, and played an essential role in the BellSouth Telecommunications and Altec Industries Alliance. When not traveling for work, he could be found with Pat at their home on Lake Martin. He was an avid fisherman, but will quickly admit that Pat was the true champion fisherman as evident by the mounted 30 pound striped bass in their den caught by Pat on a guided fishing trip which Jim insisted she “tag along.” Jim led a full life with Pat as they traveled all over the U.S. and several European countries. The couple also took every opportunity to see the Gaither Vocal Band in concert- their favorite.
He is survived by his dearly loved sister, Lillian Rollins, special family friend Kyra Williams, nephew Donnie (friend Annease) Grainger, niece Patti (husband Steve) Murphy, niece Alecia (husband Breck) Morgan, great niece Jennifer (husband Randy) Daniel and their children Rileigh (fiancé Isaac Christopher) Daniel and Jenna Daniel, great niece Jana (husband Jamie) Pate and their children Haleigh (son Tanner) Swafford, Brandon (wife Presley, son River) Sheets, CJ Kidd, and Hunter Kidd, great nephew Scott (wife Amy) Grainger and their children Matthew Grainger, Montana (husband Will) Mathis, and Mattie (husband Bryce, daughter Dylanie) Carter, great nephew Chad (wife Andrea) Grainger and their children Kyle (wife Ressa) Grainger, Gage (wife Laura, daughter Hadley, son Wyatt) Grainger, Dustin Warren, and Justin Warren, nephew David (wife Erin) Files and their children Brittany Files and Nick Files.
He was preceded in death by his loving and cherished wife, Patsy Grainger White, his parents, and his brother Tom White, whom Jim shared a deep and loving bond.
Langley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Mike Kelly, Randy Daniel, Alton Thornton, Bill Turner, Mike Tucker, and Charlie Tatom. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Pat White Sunday School Class.
