John Parker Dendy, a cherished patriarch, and esteemed community member, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. John was a beacon of joy and selflessness, touching the lives of everyone he encountered with his humor and friendliness.
A proud alumnus of Charles Henderson High School's first graduating class of 1960, John's pursuit of education led him to Massey Draughn Business College, where he earned his business degree in 1963 and met the love of his life, Julia Lenora Thomas. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a distinguished career in public service. John dedicated years of his life as a county administrator for Lee County and worked with the State Department of Examiners of Public Accounts for the State of Alabama. His expertise was so valued that, even in retirement, he continued to serve as a consultant for multiple counties, ensuring the betterment of his beloved state.
John's Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was a founding member of Horseshoe Bend Baptist Church and served as its head Deacon for many years, embodying the church's values through his actions and words. His commitment to his faith was evident in the way he lived his life, always putting others before himself and spreading kindness wherever he went.
His interests were as rich and diverse as his character. John was an avid lover of music, an enthusiast of the outdoors, relishing every moment spent hunting and fishing. Golf was more than a pastime; it was a passion that he pursued with the same dedication he applied to every aspect of his life. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as visiting and spending time at the hunting camp with his brother in Shady Grove, Alabama. John's love for family traditions shone brightly as he donned the Santa suit for parades and to the delight of his grandchildren during the Christmas season.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Julia Thomas Dendy; father, Daniel Parker Dendy, mother, Delma Kent Dendy; and sister, Charlotte Ann Dendy. John's legacy is carried on by his loving family. He is survived by his son, Thomas "Chris" (Shannon) Dendy of Auburn, AL; son, John Marcus (Dana) Dendy of Wetumpka, AL; daughter, Lara Dendy (Jacava) Mattison of Jacksons Gap, AL; grandchildren, Mason Dendy, Parker Mattison, Rachel Dendy, EmmaLee Mattison, Ryan Dendy, Brandon Bullard, Kyle Horn, and Shane Horn; great-grandchildren, Christen Thomas Bullard and Leon Brandly Bullard; and brother, William Kent Dendy Sr., along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
John Parker Dendy lived a life marked by an unwavering commitment to his family, faith, and community. His memory will be treasured and his presence deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
