John Edward Sargent's Obituary
Funeral service for Mr. John Edward Sargent, 89, of Camp Hill, will be Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel of Langley Funeral Home. Rev. Rod Siggers will officiate. Burial will follow in the Camp Hill Cemetery with Veteran’s Honors provided by the Alexander City Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm at Langley Funeral Home. Mr. Sargent passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Lake Martin Community Hospital. He was born on April 2, 1925 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama to Thomas Oscar Sargent and Willie Esther Smith Sargent and was descended from Pioneer Families of Tallapoosa and Chambers County. He was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and was stationed on the USS Currituck AV-7 as a Machinists Mate Third Class. Mr. Sargent retired as a Senior Building Superintendent from Robert E. McKee General Contractors. He also worked for Hospital Building Equipment Company. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. Mr. Sargent was a Life member of the VFW and the USS Currituck AV-7 Association, past member of the American Legion, and Charter Member of Ridge Grove Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his daughters, Meredith S. Williams (Tim), of Raleigh, NC. and Laura S. Mathis (Steve), of Cookville, TX; sons, Thomas Sargent (Lynn), of Dadeville and William Sargent (Carol), of Ardmore, AL; Eleven Grandchildren and Eight Great Grandchildren; and sister, Mary E. Hollis of Cullman, AL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Anne Schmidt Sargent; his parents; sisters, Sara Elizabeth Kharitonoff, Helen Isabell Wagner and Aria Sargent ; brothers, James Ralph Sargent and Thomas Andrew Sargent. The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be made to the Ridge Grove Volunteer Fire Dept. or to the charity of one's choice.
