Joyce Bolan passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024 at East Alabama Medical Center. Born on Tuesday, December 10, 1957, in Opelika, Alabama, she was the daughter of Mr. Elmer Otis Sherum and Mrs. Alfie Jewel Cleveland Sherum. Joyce was a woman of many talents and skills that reflected her attention to detail and ability to follow through any task she took on. No matter what project or job life handed her, it was going to be done well and with a dash of her own personality sprinkled in. She worked as a managing cook for Oskar's Cafe for nearly 18 years where she was able to take care of the local residents with southern comfort food. Joyce was a skilled cook and gifted baker, known for her many dishes including her homemade chicken n' dumplins and banana pudding. She enjoyed gardening-preparing the land, planting the seeds, and canning the vegetables that were produced. Joyce's love for nature extended to the beauty she found in the flowers, the fluttering wings of birds, and the relaxing waters of her favorite place-Lake Martin.
Her jokes and laughter were unmatched as she always looked for ways to make others feel happier. Joyce was everybody's "go-to" person because of the support and care she was always ready to give. Any time you needed a shopping buddy or traveling partner, she was the first one to volunteer. There was nothing she loved more than her family, especially her grandchildren. It never failed that "Nana," as she was affectionately known, would always be right there on the front row cheering the loudest. Joyce was a kind, caring, and friendly person who loved to read her Bible. Her spirit, humor, and friendship are traits that will always be remembered by those who knew her and never forgotten by the ones she loved.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Amos O. Bolan; daughter, Amanda (Robbie) Pritchard; stepdaughter, Marie Garrett; grandchildren, Dillon J. Burns, Chloe Pritchard, Kelsey (Herbert) Sims, Jamie Stroud, Ashley Stroud; sister, Annie Mae Holsomback; brother, Jimmie Sherum; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored.
She was preceded in death by her son, Amos Michael Bolan; daughter, Tonya Jewel Bolan; parents, Elmer & Alfie Sherum; and siblings, Ruth Kittrell, Francis Bolan, and Johnny Fincher.
Langley Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Joyce Ann Bolan.
