Junior Felix “JR” Lucas, a loving, funny, and passionate man, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at his residence, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, hard work, and cherished memories that will be treasured by all who knew him.
Mr. Lucas was born on December 25, 1937, in Haleyville, Alabama, to Felix Lucas and Lily Walker Lucas. He lived a life marked by devotion to those he loved and by a steadfast Christian faith that guided him throughout his years. He was an active member of Family Worship Center, where he found fellowship, strength, and joy among his church family. His faith was an important part of who he was, and it was reflected in the way he treated others with kindness, warmth, and sincerity.
JR was known as a hard worker and a successful entrepreneur who approached life with determination and integrity. He took pride in his work and in the life he built through perseverance and dedication. Those who knew him admired his strong spirit and his ability to meet life’s challenges with courage and a good sense of humor. He was a man who valued honesty, loyalty, and the simple blessings of everyday life.
He enjoyed being outdoors and especially loved spending time with his family gathered around him. Family meant everything to JR, and he found great happiness in the moments shared with those closest to him. He also enjoyed playing guitar and singing, and his love of music brought joy to many occasions. A devoted fan of western movies, he was a huge John Wayne admirer and appreciated the strength, character, and timeless appeal of the stories he loved. He also enjoyed attending and participating in rodeos, especially team roping, where his skill earned him several belt buckles and saddles. These accomplishments reflected not only his talent, but also his competitive spirit and love for the traditions he held dear.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte A. Lucas; his children, Timothy Wayne and Betty Sue Lucas, Teresa and Domenico Monastero, Jody H. Lucas, Michael Todd and Stacey Lucas, Rocky Lucas and Meaghan Robertson and Dusty and Courtney Lucas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his sister, Betty Lou Downs. His family was the center of his life, and he leaves behind a rich heritage of love, laughter, and lasting memories that will continue to bring comfort and strength to those who mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Debra J. Lucas; his parents, Felix Lucas and Lily Walker Lucas; his brother, J.D. Lucas; and his sisters, Anis Steele, Elleen Miller, Jessie Mae Hogan, Christine Comeens, and Eunice Butler. Their memory remained close to his heart, and he is now reunited with them in eternal peace.
JR Lucas will be remembered for the joy he brought into the lives of others, for his quick wit and loving nature, and for the deep devotion he showed to his family and faith. He lived a full and meaningful life, one shaped by hard work, treasured traditions, and an unwavering love for the people around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
