Mrs. Lola Mae McKelvey's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mrs. Lola Mae McKelvey, 77, of Dadeville, Alabama, will be Thursday, February 20, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Woods Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dave Crosslin and Rev. Sandy Crosslin will officiate. Burial will follow in the Eagle Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Langley Funeral Home.
Lola Mae Haggerty McKelvey, affectionately known as Lola, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, at the age of 77, in Opelika, Alabama. Born on February 19, 1947, in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, Lola was a beacon of love and selflessness throughout her life, touching the hearts of all who knew her.
Lola's life was one of passion and dedication, not only to her family but also to her work. She retired from Russell Corporation, where she was a respected Supervisor in the Distribution Center. Her commitment to excellence and her caring nature left a lasting impact on her colleagues and all who had the pleasure of working alongside her.
Family was the cornerstone of Lola's world. She is survived by a loving and extensive family, including her sons, John (Regina) McKelvey of Dadeville, AL, James Todd (Rita) McKelvey, and Gregory Scott McKelvey of Dadeville, AL. Her sisters, Anita (Bill Hall) Haggerty and Donna (Larry) Birdwell, will cherish her memory, as will her adored grandchildren, Chris (Millicent) McKelvey and Wesley (Mallory) Carter. Lola's legacy will live on through her great-grandchildren, Aspen Chaney, Jenzen McKelvey, Walker Carter, Amelia Carter, and Nathan Carter, who will miss their beloved great-grandmother deeply.
Lola was preceded in death by her father, John Henry Haggerty, Sr., her mother, Mary Alice Haggerty, her devoted husband, Leonard Cannie McKelvey, her son, Robert L. McKelvey, her brothers, Bobby Gene Haggerty and John Henry Haggerty, Jr.; and her sister, Mary Jane Burns.
Lola's zest for life was evident in her many interests and hobbies. She was an exceptional cook, known far and wide for her famous pound cake, which brought joy to many family gatherings and church events. Her love for the outdoors was unmistakable as she spent countless hours tending to her yard, ensuring it was a place of beauty and tranquility. Lola's energy was boundless, and she was always busy doing something that enriched the lives of those around her.
A faithful member of Woods Presbyterian Church, Lola's spiritual life was a testament to her loving and giving nature. She embraced her faith with the same passion she applied to every aspect of her life, and her presence will be deeply missed by her church family.
Lola's essence can be summed up by the words loving, selfless, and passionate. She gave of herself freely and without expectation, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her love for her family was unparalleled, and she cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The warmth of her love and the strength of her spirit will continue to guide them throughout their lives.
