Mrs. Louise Beck Slocumb's Obituary
Funeral service for Mrs. Louise Beck Slocumb, 96, a lifelong resident of Waverly, will be Monday, December 23, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Waverly United Methodist Church. Rev. Blue Vardaman and Rev. Frank Chappell will officiate. She will lie instate at the Church for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Waverly Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 22, 2013 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Langley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Slocumb passed away on Friday, December 20, 2013 at her residence. She was born on April 23, 1917 in Waverly, Alabama to Guy Houston Beck and Emma Lizzie Strozier Beck. She was a member of Waverly United Methodist Church and had held many positions in the church. She loved working with the young people at the church. Her passions were her church, cooking and her family. She retired from the US Postal Service as a rural letter carrier. She loved her job and was a friend to all the patrons on her route. She also served two terms as the Mayor of Waverly. Mrs. Slocumb was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. She always taught her grandchildren to look for God’s beauty; the moon, flowers and trees; to drive, and to cook rolls.
She is survived by her daughter, Becky Combs (Emory) of Waverly; grandchildren, Jim Combs (Angela) of Phenix City, Lenoye Combs (Michelle) of Waverly and Jane C. Murphy of Opelika; great-grandchildren, Matthew Combs, Lawrence Combs, Laney Combs, Mehgan Skinner (Storm), Cody Adams, Josh Walton and Dustin Murphy; great-great-granddaughters, Dakota Paige Stewart and Bailey Grace Skinner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lenoye Slocumb; her parents; and sister, Evelyn Beck.
The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be given to the Road Paving Fund at Waverly Cemetery, PO Box 96, Waverly, AL 36879.
