Mrs. Mary "Meg" Melton's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mrs. Mary "Meg" Melton, 84, of Dadeville, Alabama, will be Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Langley Funeral Home. Dr. Ben Hayes will officiate. Burial will follow in the Tallapoosa County Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm at Langley Funeral Home.
Meg passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on August 7, 2023, in Dadeville, Alabama. Born on December 27, 1938, in Washington, Georgia, she was a beacon of love, wisdom, and selflessness.
Meg was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She is survived by her children, Jeanna Ragsdale of Dadeville, Alabama, Cathy Melton Agler (Kent) of Wickenburg, Arizona, and Wayne Melton of Dadeville, Alabama. Her joy was multiplied through her grandchildren, Holly Parrish (Chris) and Hope Olson (Mitchell), her great-grandchildren, Beckett Parrish, Declan Parrish, Elliott Olson, and Oliver Olson, and her brother, Harry Lewis.
Meg was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Gary K. Melton, her parents, Helen Lee Lewis and Wayne Edison Lewis, and her siblings, Jean Lewis Davis, Wayne Lewis, Gerald Lewis, Clayton Lewis, Norton Lewis, and Hansel Lewis.
Meg was a member of the First Baptist Church Dadeville, where she worshipped faithfully. She was a woman of great faith and a pillar of her community.
Meg delighted in the simple pleasures of life. She dearly loved her family and cherished family gatherings. Her love for cooking and sewing was evident in the warmth and comfort her home provided. She was an avid reader and solver of crossword puzzles. Meg was a regular viewer of Jeopardy and a devoted fan of Atlanta Braves baseball and Auburn University sports. She had an affinity for summertime and was fond of cultivating and admiring beautiful flowers.
Meg's life was a testament to her loving and selfless nature. She was a source of wisdom for her family and friends. Her kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on everyone she met. Meg's memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Her life was a beautiful example of love, selflessness, and wisdom. Meg will be deeply missed.
