Mrs. Melissa Vann Oliver's Obituary
Memorial Service for Mrs. Melissa Vann Oliver, 82, of Dadeville, will be Friday, September 26, 2025, at 2 p.m. CDT at the Chapel of Langley Funeral Home. Mother Jenna Strizak will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dadeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. CDT at Langley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Oliver passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025, in Marietta, GA. Born on May 29, 1943, in Wilkensburg, PA, to Clyde Harold Vann and Frances Moore Vann, Melissa's warmth and generosity affected the lives of all who knew her.
Melissa's journey of lifelong learning and service began at Birmingham Southern College, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree. Her passion for helping others led her to a fulfilling career as a case worker for the Tallapoosa County Department of Human Resources. Her commitment to social justice extended beyond her professional life as she became an active member of Alabama Arise. In her retirement, she continued to advocate for the underserved as a lobbyist, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to the cause.
Melissa's involvement in her community was multifaceted. As a member and volunteer for theTallapoosee Historical Museum, Dadeville Garden Club and the Worth While Club, she shared her love for history, nature and service to others. Her contributions to Project Pride with the Tallapoosa County School System showcased her belief in the power of education and community engagement. An avid gardener, Melissa found joy and solace in the beauty of the outdoors.
Known for her vibrant spirit, Melissa led an active lifestyle that was as dynamic as it was inspiring. She never met a stranger, approaching each new acquaintance with an open heart. Her love for music and dancing was infectious, often being the life of the party and encouraging others to join in the fun.
Above all, Melissa was a selfless individual who always put the needs of others before her own. Her legacy is one of love, generosity, kindness and tireless advocacy for others. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by the countless lives she has influenced through her work, volunteerism and the simple, yet profound acts of kindness she bestowed upon the world.
As we bid farewell to Melissa Vann Oliver, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a woman deeply loved. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us of the power of compassion and the importance of making a difference in the lives of others.
She is survived by her son, David McCarty (Rachel) Oliver of Smyrna, GA; daughter, Leslie Elizabeth Oliver of Denver, CO; and grandson, Jackson Patrick Oliver of Smyrna, GA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Percy Oliver, II; and sister, Deborah Vann.
