Minnie Lee Reeder Barker's Obituary
Funeral service for Mrs. Minnie Lee Reeder Barker, 89, of Camp Hill, Alabama, will be Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Langley Funeral Home. Rev. James Meadows will officiate. Burial will follow at the Roxana Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Langley Funeral Home.
In loving remembrance, we announce the peaceful passing of Mrs. Minnie Lee Reeder Barker, affectionately known as Lee, on the 6th of October 2023, in Camp Hill, Alabama. Born on December 14, 1933, in Roxana, Alabama, to Janie Nichols Reeder and Luther Lee Reeder.
Lee pursued her education, first at the University of Montevallo, where she obtained her bachelor's degree, then going on to earn her master's degree at the University of Houston. She had a passion for educating children. Lee worked devotedly teaching preschoolers at Faith United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas from 1970 to 1987. Lee also served in administration for Texaco/Chevron from 1985 to 1997. Lee was a skilled pianist and sang in her church choir. She was known for her intelligence and generous contributions to the community.
Lee is survived by her husband of 70 years, John Edward Barker; daughters, Dana Roxane Hacker (Scott) and Jan Simmons (James); son, John Edward Barker Jr. (Terry); grandchildren, Melodie Lynn Neuman (Chris), James Orbon Simmons Jr., Timothy Ryan Simmons (Laura), Andrew Nathanael Simmons, Stephen Thomas Simmons, Leah Ann Simmons, Luke Quentin Simmons, John Daniel Simmons (Jamie), Maxwell Reed Hacker (Melanie), and Callen "Callie" Jaymes Hacker; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; and sister, Judy Waldrop Tapley.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Christie Renee Simmons; mother, Janie Nichols Reeder; father, Luther Lee Reeder; stepmother, Ruth Lorene Reeder; sister Araminta Reeder Hussey; and brother, Luther "Buddy" Mortimer Reeder.
Lee was an intelligent, kind, and wonderful person that all were better for knowing. So as a good and faithful servant of the Lord, she is now living in perfection and wearing her crown of glory.
The family will accept flowers or donations in memory of Lee. Donations may be made to Roxana UMC, Cemetery Fund, 2509 Hammonds Drive, Opelika, Alabama 36801.
