Mr. Oscar Rollie Chester, Jr.'s Obituary
Oscar Rollie Chester, Jr., 81, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023 at home in Auburn, Alabama. Rollie was born to the late Oscar Rollie Chester, Sr. and Claire Sharman Chester on July 4, 1942, in Alexander City, Alabama. He spent his childhood in Camp Hill, Alabama where he graduated from Camp Hill High School. In 1960, he was awarded a baseball scholarship to The University of Alabama and graduated with a degree in marketing in 1964. He spent a year in law school before joining the US Army for training at Fort Riley, Kansas. Rollie served two tours of duty in Vietnam and received a purple heart. After returning from Vietnam in 1967 he moved to Auburn to be close to family in Camp Hill and Montgomery. He worked for many years in the outdoor sports industry and when not traveling the southeast on business, could usually be found at his farm in Camp Hill hunting, fishing or working the land.
He is survived by Adele Ballard Chester (Dell), his wife of 59 years; his sister Nancy Chester Immel (Conrad) of Los Angeles, California; his four children Eleanor Farrell Chester of Auburn; Steven Rollie Chester (Cindy) of Birmingham; Claire Sharman Chester of Auburn and Ross Eugene Chester (Jennings) of Columbus; and five grandchildren Eleanor Margaret Chester of Birmingham, Ross Ballard McCrary of Montgomery, Claire Campbell Chester of Tuscaloosa, Steven Crawford Chester of Birmingham and Elizabeth Jennings Chester of Columbus.A graveside service is planned for 2:00 pm CT on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Town Creek Cemetery in Auburn.In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to The Exceptional Foundation of East Alabama, 300 N.
