Mrs. Betty Bass' Obituary
Funeral Service for Mrs. Betty Bass, 77, of Auburn, Alabama and formerly of Dadeville, Alabama, will be Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 12:00 pm at the Chapel of Langley Funeral Home. Rev. Tim Bass and Elder John Wingard will officiate. Burial will follow in the Tallapoosa County Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at Langley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bass was born on June 8, 1946 in Fayette, Alabama to Earnest Lewis and Odeal Smothers Lewis. She was a member of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Arbor Lake Health & Rehab.
Betty was cloaked in grace that characterized her vibrant life. Renowned for her style and radiant smile, Betty's presence was a burst of color amidst the ordinary. Her smile was infectious, her spirit endlessly joyful-traits that endeared her to all who knew her.
As the matriarch of a close-knit family, Betty cherished family gatherings with Easter being her favorite. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren, often sporting her affectionate lipstick marks, were the apples of her eye.
Her fried okra was legendary to her family, and her journal pages bore witness to her profound love and unwavering optimism. A genuine soul, her generosity and curiosity knew no bounds.Betty's love for her husband was unyielding, manifesting in an affection that was apparent to all.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Elder James Howard "Jim" Bass; daughter, Kim (Rick) Vest; sons, Rev. Tim (Somer) Bass and Brad (Amy) Bass; daughter, Celeste (Dodd) Starbird; grandchildren, Justin (Audrey) Vest, Caitlin Vest (Austin) Burns, Joshua (Haley) Bass, Alyssa (Zachary) Hall, Chrissie (Ryan) Steff, Trevor (Katie) Bass, Kurt (Meg) Branch, Clay (Emily) Branch, Conner (Ashley) Branch, James (Ashleigh) Starbird, Aspen (Mason) Starbird, Autumn Starbird, and Jade Starbird; twenty one great grandchildren; sisters, Helen (Joel) Jenkins and Linda Henderson; brothers, Mike (Tina) Driver and Jerry (Donna) Driver; sister in law, Jane Lewis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her great granddaughter, Aubrey Bass, father, Earnest Lewis; mother, Odeal Lewis; stepmother, Dean Lewis; and brother, Bill Lewis.
To know Betty was to know love and laughter unlike any other. Her legacy of cheerfulness and generosity will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
