Mrs. Margaret Jean Harrelson's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mrs. Margaret Jean Harrelson, 90, of Dadeville, Alabama, will be Friday, December 29, 2023 at 12:00 pm at the New Concord Baptist Church. Rev. Lenny Arnold and Dr. Josh Sammons will officiate. Burial will follow in the Concord Garden of Memories. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at New Concord Baptist Church.
Mrs. Harrelson, known affectionately as Margaret Jean, left us on the serene Christmas morning of December 25, 2023, at the age of 90. A life marked by love, creativity, and service came to a peaceful close in her home state of Alabama. Born on February 19, 1933, in Birmingham, Margaret Jean was a beacon of warmth and kindness that illuminated the lives of everyone she touched.
Margaret Jean was the beloved matriarch of a large and loving family. She was a devoted mother to her six sons: Tommy Harrelson and his wife Martha of Dadeville; William Michael Harrelson of Oxford, MS; Richard Terry Harrelson of Dadeville; Joseph M. Harrelson and his wife Karen of Johns Creek, GA; Patrick D. Harrelson and his wife Susan of Juliette, GA; and Jeffrey Alan Harrelson and his wife Susanne of Loganville, GA. She was the proud grandmother to seventeen grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye, and she was blessed to see the family tree flourish with twenty-nine great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Her joy was seeing her family grow and prosper, and she instilled in them the values of love and kindness that she herself embodied. Margaret Jean was preceded in death by her cherished husband, William David Harrelson, her loving mother, Lottie Watters, and her father, Edwin Watters.
Margaret Jean dedicated her professional life to healthcare administration, where she was known for her meticulous care and genuine concern for the well-being of patients and colleagues alike. Her tireless work ethic and generous spirit made her a respected figure in her field. Her colleagues remember her as a pillar of support and a source of wise counsel.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Margaret Jean was a woman of many talents and interests. She was an artist whose paintings and writings are cherished by her family and friends, an excellent cook whose recipes will be passed down for generations, and a seamstress with a magical touch for fabric. These creative outlets not only brought her joy but also enriched the lives of those around her.
Those who knew Margaret Jean would describe her as loving, kind, and generous. Her home was always open, her table always set for an extra guest, and her heart always ready to give. She lived her life with an unwavering commitment to the well-being of her family and friends, and her legacy of compassion and generosity will live on through them.
Mrs. Harrelson was an active member of New Concord Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School for many years and participated in many Church activities.As we say farewell to Margaret Jean Harrelson, we celebrate a life that was lived to the fullest, marked by an unwavering dedication to family, a commitment to service, and a passion for creativity. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories told around dinner tables, in the beauty of her art, and in the kindness that her descendants will carry forward. Margaret Jean's life was a tapestry of love and kindness, woven with the threads of her many gifts and shared generously with all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her light will continue to shine in the hearts of her family and all who were blessed to know her.
