Mrs. Stella Burnell Payne's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mrs. Stella Burnell Payne, 81, of Jacksons Gap, Alabama, will be Monday, December 18, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Langley Funeral Home. Rev. John Dye, Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in the Tallapoosa County Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 18, 2023 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at Langley Funeral Home.
Burnell, a beacon of selfless love and intelligent grace, departed this world on December 14, 2023, at the age of 81, in her lifelong hometown of Jacksons Gap, Alabama. Born on August 25, 1942, to proud parents Annie Louise Patterson Gray and Raymond Gray.
A graduate of Dadeville High School followed by Business Trade School, Burnell dedicated almost 30 years as a secretary at Russell Corporation-Dadeville Plant, where her smart organization skills proved invaluable. Beyond her professional pursuits, she nurtured an unwavering commitment to Old Union Baptist Church, generously giving her time as a dedicated member and Sunday School Teacher.
Those who knew Burnell will forever remember her for the loving, kindness, and care she provided to her parents and her son. She also found joy in life's simple pleasures by cultivating her yard and flower beds, mowing her lawn, and reveling in the beauty of Lake Martin. Her disciplined nature was complemented by her creative spirit, evidenced by her affinity for needlework and crafts.
She leaves behind a loving family, including her devoted son, James Eric Payne of Jacksons Gap, Alabama. Burnell rejoins her cherished husband, James Vernon Payne, as well as her dear parents, in eternal peace.
The world was made brighter by Burnell's presence - her intelligence, selflessness, and innate capacity to love unconditionally will remain as an everlasting legacy within the hearts of those she has left behind.
