Mrs. Susan Dozier Thrasher's Obituary
Graveside Service for Mrs. Susan Dozier Thrasher, 71, of Panama City, will be Friday, September 29, 2023 at 12:30 pm at the Union Church Cemetery. Rev. Dan Rhodes will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Union Church at Lake Martin.
Mrs. Thrasher, a beloved mother, Granna, sister, and aunt, and an unwavering beacon of love and faith, passed away recently. A lifelong educator and an avid supporter of Auburn University, Susan was known for her selflessness and devotion to her family and students.
Born to parents John Lesel Dozier and Ivis Dozier, Susan was a proud graduate of Union Academy, Class of 1969. Her passion for learning led her to pursue higher education at Auburn University, where she received a bachelors degree in education in 1975. She later earned a master's degree from Troy University, a testament to her dedication and commitment to education.
Susan's professional journey as an educator spanned over four decades, during which she influenced countless young lives. Throughout her life, Susan dedicated herself to the field of education, shaping the minds of generations of students. Her most recent chapter in this journey was as a teacher at Lynn Haven Elementary, where her passion for teaching shone brightly. Even after retirement, Susan continued to share her knowledge and expertise through tutoring, helping numerous students achieve their full potential. Her dedication and passion for teaching were evident in every classroom she stepped into, and her legacy lives on through the many students whose lives she touched.
Family was the cornerstone of Susan's life. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Tonilea Thrasher McNaron (Richard) of Panama City, FL, and her cherished grandchildren, Maylea K. McNaron, Jase C. McNaron, and Kyle McNaron. She also leaves behind her loving brother, Tony Dozier (Ruby Lee), her caring sister, Gail Carleton (George), and numerous nieces and nephews. Susan was predeceased by her husband, Clifford Hunter Thrasher, and her parents, John and Ivis Dozier.
Susan was an ardent lover of the lake life at Lake Martin. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and never missed an activity involving them. An enthusiastic supporter of Auburn football, she was a familiar face at tailgating events and games. Susan also had a spirited side, evident in her love for riding roller coasters. Her zest for life was infectious, and she brought joy and laughter to all those around her.
Susan was not only a lover of the outdoors but also a devoted member of her local church in Panama City, Florida. She found great joy in teaching in the church nursery for many years, teaching vacation bible school and nurturing the youngest members of her congregation and leaving a lasting impact on their lives.
While we mourn the loss of Susan Dozier Thrasher, we also celebrate her life, her accomplishments, and the love and joy she brought into our lives. Her legacy of love, faith, and selfless service will continue to inspire and guide us. Susan's life was a testament to the power of love and faith, and she will be dearly missed.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Susan at the First Baptist Church (640 Grace Avenue) in Panama City, Florida on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at 4:00 pm. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm prior to the service.
