Ms. Sherry Angeline McCollum Curlee passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Chapman Healthcare Center. She was born on December 3, 1943 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, to Mr. Clinton Robert McCollum and Mrs. Clarice Omega Adcock McCollum. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, Sherry's hands were those of healing and comfort, her presence a soothing balm to the many patients served throughout her life, most notably at Chapman's Healthcare Center. Her passion for nursing was not just a profession but a calling, one she answered every day with a smile that could light up the darkest of rooms. She was not only a caregiver but also a confidante and friend to those under her care, embodying the true spirit of nursing.
Sherry's love for literature and poetry was profound, with her own short story gracing the pages of Reminisce Magazine. Her poems, crafted from the depths of her heart, resonated with the authenticity of her spirited nature. Known as a sharp dresser with an eye for style, Sherry could lighten your spirits with her spunky personality and sense of humor. Her culinary skills were unmatched, especially when it came to her beloved casseroles and various other southern comfort dishes, which she often shared at family gatherings. She was an animal lover, especially cats and dogs, that kept her company. Sherry was a good mother that truly loved her children. Although the poet no longer writes, may her words of love forever remain etched into the hearts of those who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Angie (Brad) Smith, Vicky (Kevin) Mitchell, Jerome Adcock, Sugar (Mike Hearn) Walker, Daniel Baumgardner; grandchildren, Amanda (Byron) Berry, Sarah Mann, Elizabeth (Zeke) Garrett, Sydney Adcock, Spencer Adcock; great-grandchildren, Chloe Berry, Walden Berry, Josh Garrett, Caleb Garrett, Lindsey Etress, Holley Etress, Bryce Etress, Alice Brumbalough, Lilly Brumbalough; sister, Linda (John) Thompson; brothers, Ricky (Pat) McCollum, Larry (Libby) McCollum; sister-in-law, Shirley McCollum; numerous nieces & nephews, and her special friend, Jane James.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton and Clarice McCollum; brothers, Charles McCollum, Dexter McCollum; and grandparents, Cecil & Thelma Adcock, and Robert & Laura McCollum.
The family would like to offer a sincere and heartfelt thank you to Chapman's Healthcare Center and Community Hospice for the care that they gave to Sherry throughout her stay.
