Lt. Col. Paul J. Armour's Obituary
Lt. Col. Paul J. Armour, USAF Ret., 80, of Dadeville, Alabama, went to Heaven to be with his Lord on Monday, October 19, 2020 at Birmingham VA Medical Center. He was born on May 7, 1940 in Holt, Michigan to Lyman "Jack" Armour and Virginia Miller Armour.
Lt. Col. Paul Armour was a US Air Force Veteran who served 28 yrs. as a fighter pilot. He served in many US and overseas locations to include South Vietnam. Throughout his distinguished career he earned many awards, decorations and medals to include the Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal twice, Air Medal ten times, Air Force Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force outstanding unit award, Air Force Organizational Excellence award, Combat Readiness Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Lt. Col. (R) Paul Armour was fondly known as “PJ” to his friends and was active in various community activities throughout his retirement years. PJ volunteered as an ambulance driver, fire fighter and President for the Union Fire Department for many years. In addition, he was active in the Hospice volunteer program as a patient ministry counselor. He served in the Choir and taught Sunday School at Red Ridge United Methodist Church. He also had a passion for living on Lake Martin, fishing, deer, and turkey hunting.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley A. Armour; sons, Paul J. Armour, Jr., Eric S. Armour (Denise); grandchildren, Jodi, Ashley, Meaghen, Hayleigh, Abby, Megan, Paul, and Gracie; great grandchildren, Zayden and Aceon; sister, Judy Soule (Larry), and brothers, Jack Armour (Bette) and Tom Armour (Lex).
He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a Committal Service Friday, November 27, 2020 at 1:00 PM EST at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.
