Rebecca Marie Ziebol Lunsford, of Phenix City, AL, was born December 6, 1957 and passed
away February 14, 2025. Rebecca was born in Barnwell, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Donald William Ziebol, Sr. and the late Rebecca Jane Reeder Ziebol. Her father was in the Army and her mother was an elementary school teacher. After graduating high school from Glenwood, Rebecca received her Associate’s degree from Chattahoochee Valley Community College, followed by her Bachelor’s degree from Auburn University majoring in Early Childhood Education, War Eagle!! She then went on to obtain her Master’s degree from Columbus State University majoring in Early Childhood Education. She was a devoted educator for 30 years and taught pre-k, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade.
In addition to being a dedicated educator, Rebecca was an amazing and inspiring mother to
Jeffery, Jennifer, and Jessica. She was the best “Mama” anyone could ever have. She was
courageous, strong, hilarious, gracious, patient, kind, compassionate, and would do anything to
help you - her love was never-ending! She had a deep love for helping others and was truly the
most considerate and caring person imaginable. No words can ever express the impact she had
on her children’s lives. The love she gave them was unwavering. Her strength and love were
evident with her battle against cancer over the last five years. She fought hard to stay with her
kids!
From a young age, she enjoyed company of all kinds - family, friends, and especially animals,
ranging from chickens, cows, dogs, and cats. She loved to read and spend time outdoors, whether
it was working in the garden, watering the grass, watching her children play ball, planting
flowers in the flower bed, or sitting on her front porch taking in some fresh air. If it was outside,
she loved it.
She is survived by her three children, Jeffery Lunsford (wife, Angel Lunsford), Jennifer
Lunsford Bomar (husband, Lew Bomar), and Jessica Lunsford; brothers Donald William Ziebol,
Jr. (wife, Sherry Ziebol) and Carl Ziebol; granddaughter, Briana Daily (husband, Patrick Daily);
nieces Kristen Ziebol Chau and Kyndall Ziebol Forbes (husband, Michael Forbes); nephew
Donald William Ziebol, III (Will), (wife, Hannah Ziebol); and 5 great nephews.
“And so these three, faith, hope, and love endure; but, the greatest of these is love.”
