I was in the class of '71 at Cardinal Stritch High School with Rick. I remember him as a truly "nice guy" and always upbeat and fun to be around. I ran into him maybe a year or two after graduation at the McDonalds at Front and Main street in Toledo. He was in his car eating, on an evening break from his job at the Blade. He called out to me as I was walking to my car and I joined him and we dined together there in McDonalds parking lot. We reminisced about our high school days and filled each other in on our current lives. It was the last time we saw each other but I recall it distinctly to this day. That was Rick! Rest in peace Rick and someday we will continue that conversation!

Cheryl, Erik and Kristin, I worked with Duke for 8 years and saw first-hand his kindness, fairness, honesty and dedication. He was a great boss and mentor, but the most important job in the world to him was being a good husband and dad. He talked about you often, sharing stories about how you were doing. Thank you for sharing him with us. He will be deeply missed.
I only met you once, when you dropped your daughter off at my house for law school. She was my beloved 1L roommate. You were so nice and kind and had the sweetest face. I remember wishing I had a dad to drop me off at law school. She loved you beyond measure, she is a testament to the Maas family and I pray God carries them all through his terribly difficult time, and that you sir, have Godspeed on your journey. I know you are loved tremendously.
