Sandra Florence Whittle Horton entered into the gates of Heaven on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. Born on April 5, 1948, she was the daughter of Mr. Jack Whittle and Mrs. Bernice Sears Whittle. Sandra was a devoted member of Jackson's Gap Baptist Church where she cared not only for its members but also her husband, Bro. Charlie Horton, who served as pastor for many years. She had a beautiful voice which she used while singing and recording with the Calvary Sisters. Her faith was very important to her, and she lived her life with hope and grace.
Sandra was a beautiful woman, inside and out, who always made sure that she was dressed and ready for the day. She could color-coordinate an outfit better than most designers, and no outfit was complete without matching pieces of jewelry. Her essence was not of vanity, but that of a true southern woman-elegant and graceful with a little bit of flair. Sandra enjoyed decorating her home and making it into a place where her family could gather and where her friends always felt welcomed.
She was a devoted wife of 48 years to the man she called her best friend and together they experienced all of the memories that life had to offer. Sandra and Charlie enjoyed traveling and never missed the opportunity to sneak away on a new adventure. She enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, and going on cruises-her favorite being her most recent one to Alaska. New places also meant new foods to try which was the cherry on top of a perfect trip. No matter where the journey took them, Charlie was always there with his hand out for Sandra to hold onto as they climbed new heights, conquered obstacles, and lived each day to the fullest. Their love was one of honesty, humor, and genuine love. Sandra was a loving mother to her children and special "MeMaw" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family brought her so much joy and, to them, she was everything that a mother and grandmother could be plus more.
Just as Sandra always knew that her best friend's hand would be reaching out for her to take, her family can hold the same level of faith knowing that her beautiful light will always be there to help guide them over their steep hills and through rocky waters. Although she is physically gone from this world, her spirit will live on until we all meet again once more.
Sandra is survived by her loving husband, Bro. Charlie Horton; daughter, Rhonda (Todd) Lessig; sons, Jack Hubbard, Ron Hubbard, Paul Horton, Jonathan (Teresa) Horton; grandchildren, Cassandra (Jon) Amato, Brandi Thompson, Jessica (Jake) Boger, Jackson (Amber) Hubbard, Ronnie Hubbard, Braden Hubbard, Anthony (Haley) Horton, Ashley Horton, A.J. Horton, Andrew Horton, Kailee Gross; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Fay Floyd; brother, Bill (Leslie) Whittle; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Bernice Whittle.
