Mr. Travis Freeman Fincher's Obituary
Travis Freeman Fincher was born December 30, 1939 in Lagrange, GA to his parents Ethan Travis and Helen Fincher. They moved to several cities before settling down in Tallassee, AL where he finished high school. He attended Auburn University and was in the ROTC before graduating in 1963 with a civil engineering degree. California was his destination after accepting a position with the California State Division of Highways, but then he spent many years with Peter Kiewit Sons Company. Some of the projects he worked on was securing the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco as well as bridges affected by the 1989 earthquake that interrupted the World Series in Oakland, CA. A very important project he worked on was a plumbing plant that was the last phase of transporting water from Northern California to Southern California. At the time of his retirement he was the chief estimator for the Northern California District. In 1998 he returned to his beloved south and enjoyed living on Lake Martin until 2016 when they moved into the StillWaters Community.
He met his wife Kay in a snow ski club in Hermosa Beach, California. They married in 1968 and enjoyed camping, square dancing and skiing at Lake Tahoe. They also went to many Dodger and A's baseball games taking their only son Michael who arrived in 1978.
Travis loved music and was always singing in a church choir. Community service was always important and he served as officers in the Lion's Club in California and Alexander City, AL. He was also a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans.
He stepped out of retirement for a while to serve as the Covenant Manager for the StillWaters Community. He was a very social person and said it was his best job because he met and helped so many people.
He is survived by his wife, Kay, son Michael, his sister Anne Bryant and her husband Don and children Emily Bryant, her brother Travis Bryant, Ivey and Cullen Bryant.
