William Otis Hartley, known as Sonny by friends and family, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Lake Martin Community Hospital. Born on December 14, 1946, in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, he was the son of Mr.Otis Talmadge Hartley and Mrs. Willie Lee Walls Hartley. In the past, he was a regular member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Sonny was a hardworking man, retiring from UniRoyal and then starting his own business, Hartley's Jewelry, where he created beautiful pieces of jewelry for many people. People knew him as a silly, charismatic person who left those around him laughing and feeling beautiful, special, and loved.
When able, Sonny enjoyed fishing, playing with his dogs, and a good game of Rook or two. He was a die hard Alabama fan and would never miss an opportunity to cheer on the Crimson Tide. Sonny loved his family, especially his grandchildren who affectionately knew him as "Paw Paw Sonny." There's no doubt that Sonny lived life to the fullest and loved every moment that life brought. He will always be remembered by those that knew him for his kindness, charm, and loving heart.
Sonny is survived by his daughters, Missy Hartley (Enrique) Boyd, Renee Hand; grandchildren, Blake Dickinson, Kyle (Danielle) Dickinson, Megan (William) Watson, Morgan Hand, Kristin Hand, Brooke (Dee) Hand, numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Peggy Bullard, Bonnie Pitchford, Betty Sue Voss; several nieces and nephews, and his best friend, Tommy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis & Willie Lee Hartley; and sister, Faye Robinson.
