Mr. William Collins Smith's Obituary
Mr. William Collins Smith, 65, of Lake Martin, Alabama passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023, at his residence. He was born on November 23, 1957, in Houston, Texas to his loving parents, Albert James Smith, Jr. and Julia Collins Smith.
He is survived by his devoted wife Monica Clark Smith, and his ever so cherished daughters, Michelle Smith Austin and her husband William Austin and Katherine Samford Smith; his only son, Robert Nicholson and his wife Alice.; his adored grandchild, Timothy Collins Austin; caring stepdaughter Elizabeth Mastoris; and sister, J'Anne Rawson (Jeff); brother, Albert James Smith, III (Gwen); and several nieces and nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill graduated from the College of Notre Dame in California in 1981, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Minor in Mathematics. He continued to express his love for the northern Californian mountains through his time living in a cabin without electricity and surfing the cold pacific waters most mornings. Bill was an extremely hard-working man, he founded Technical & Scientific Application, Inc. (“TSA”) in 1986, selling this company in May 2018 to retire to beautiful Lake Martin, Alabama, spending half of his time fly fishing in the blue ridge mountains and avidly capturing the sunsets from his porch in Sapphire. He was a proud fan and supporter of the Auburn University tigers. WAR EAGLE! Bill was also a proud advisory board member of the Jules Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, pursuing his passion for his mother’s vision of touching others through art.
As we all know, Bill loved his dogs! From his Australian shepherd to his yellow Labrador Bubba, who spent weekends with him in south Texas dove hunting, accompanied by his son, nephews, brother, and father; to his non hunting Brittany (a “bird dog”), and his beloved rescue Walker. He also thoroughly enjoyed playing golf with his family and friends and attending PGA major championship tournaments. Bill is well known for jamming on his drums at the ranch with the “Old Man Band,” a group of lifelong friends he spent sharing memories and music with.
A service will be held for family and close friends at Chapelwood United Methodist Church on April 21st, 2023, at 11:00 am, in Houston, Texas.
