Wayne passed away on the 8th of August 2025, leaving a legacy of service, dedication, and love. Born on July 23, 1956 in Alexander City to Miles Albert Smith, Jr. and Carolyn Duffey Smith, his journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his community and family, touching the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Wayne attended Dadeville High School, graduating in the class of 1974. He furthered his education by obtaining an Associate's Degree from Alexander City Junior College, laying a solid foundation for his successful career. Professionally, Wayne's hard work and leadership were evident to everyone, as he advanced to become the General Manager at Hill Petroleum before his well-earned retirement. However, his commitment to his work was paralleled by his dedication to civic duty.
In 1998, Wayne was appointed as a councilman on the Dadeville City Council, serving his community with honor and integrity for six years. His leadership qualities shone brightly, and in 2016, he took on the mantle of Mayor of Dadeville, steering the city with vision and compassion until 2020. Wayne's contributions to Dadeville were not just through his positions of leadership but also through his active participation in community organizations and events.
A man of faith, Wayne was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Dadeville, where he was a beacon of kindness and support. His enthusiasm for football was legendary, passionately supporting his beloved Dadeville Tigers and Auburn Tigers with an undying team spirit. His love for his community extended to his involvement with the Masonic Lodge #71 in Dadeville, where he was a devoted member.
Above all, Wayne was cherished by his family, who knew him as a loving husband, a cherished father, a doting grandfather, a caring brother, and a fun-loving uncle. His generous spirit, warm laughter, and wise counsel will be profoundly missed by those who were fortunate to be a part of his life.
Wayne's life was a testament to the power of community, love, and persistence. While his presence will be sorely missed, his legacy will continue to inspire and guide the hearts of all who knew him.
