With a heart full of joy and a spirit that lifted others, William Thomas "Tommy" Thweatt, Jr. departed this world on April 18, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and kindness. Born in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, on June 3, 1966, Tommy was a beacon of light in the lives of those who knew him.
Tommy's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his passion for education, and his love for sports and humor. He is survived by his adoring mother, Emma Jean (Redge Brown) Thweatt, who instilled in him the values of love and family. His sister, Shelia (Dwain) Holt; brother, Kevin Thweatt; step-sisters, Tracie (Wayne) Reaves and Kim (Wendell) Johnston; and step-brother, Tim Wayne Brown will cherish the memories of Tommy's playful antics and selfless nature. His special daughter, Summer Wright and her three children, whom he loved dearly; along with his nieces, Alaina (Kendall) Holderfield, Carmen Reese, Emmalee (Josh) Bruce, Jasmine Thweatt; and nephew, Dalton Holt, will forever hold dear the times spent in his uplifting presence.
Tommy was preceded in death by his father, William Thomas "Bill" Thweatt, Sr., his brother, James Edward "Jimmy" Thweatt, his step-sister, Teresa Droddy, and his grandparents Arthur V. and Mary Lou Milam, William N. Thweatt, and Fletcher and Aldean Vines. He now joins them in eternal peace, leaving behind a world that was better for his presence.
A proud graduate of Dadeville High School's class of 1984 and Jacksonville State University, Tommy carried his love for learning into his career. As the Chief School Financial Officer for the Tallapoosa County Board of Education, he was respected for his expertise and admired for his unwavering commitment to the students and educators he served. His work was not just a job; it was a calling that he fulfilled with excellence and integrity.
Tommy's passion for life extended beyond his professional endeavors. An avid sports fan, he was a staunch supporter of Dadeville Athletics, embodying the spirit of community and camaraderie that sports can foster. His enthusiasm in the stands was infectious, and his belief in the power of teamwork was evident in how he lived his life.
Traveling, attending concerts, and experiencing the joys of life were some of Tommy's favorite pastimes. His adventures brought him great happiness, but it was the company he kept during these moments that he treasured most. Tommy's sense of humor was a gift he generously shared, often playing the role of a prankster, much to the delight (and occasional chagrin) of his friends and family. His ability to make others laugh was a testament to his warm and engaging personality.
Described by those who knew him best as funny, selfless, and kind, Tommy was the embodiment of a life well-lived. He approached each day with a smile, ready to lend a hand or share a joke, and his legacy is one of unbridled joy and compassion.
As we say goodbye to Tommy, we celebrate the time we were fortunate to share with him. His laughter echoes in our hearts, and his kindness inspires us to be better, to love more deeply, and to find joy in the everyday. William Thomas "Tommy" Thweatt, Jr. may have left us in body, but his spirit will continue to guide and comfort us for all our days.
