Rick was crazy about Gigi and loved his children, Erik,Jeff and Lauren. His grandchildren gave him much pleasure. He and Gigi spoiled them with lots of love and presents.
We have many, many fond memories with all the family at Christmas and our summer birthday parties. He loved to hunt and fish.
A great man with many talents. He was a great swimmer and artist. He loved to cook for others.... and we will always remember Rick’s “Sweet Sixteen” spices that he invented.
He will be greatly missed by all.
To Gigi and family, all of us in Meridian and around the country (the Crowe's, Harwell's, McHugh's, McArdles) collectively known as the McCroweWell's wish to extend to all of you our heartfelt prayers and sympathies. We enjoyed all the times that Rick came to see his Mom in Meridian over the years. We know a great reunion is happening in heaven but we also know he will be missed by you all dearly. I can still hear his laugh and his demeanor was always a bit boisterous and fun loving (just like his Mom's). Over the years our family claimed Jennie as one of our own (but never in a bad way) because of the close family friendships that had existed for many decades with the families.
Again our deepest sympathies to you all. Our love and prayers now and in the days ahead.

Rick and I were fraternity brothers at Alabama and roommates the summer of 1969. He was full of joy and enjoyed his friends. He will be missed.
Many people come into our lives through the years. Some only for a season and then there is that select few, sometimes only one or two, that would never leave or forsake you regardless of your faults, failures and shortcomings. There is no doubt in your mind that they love you and they know you love them equally as much. There are no words, deeds, failures, bad habits, rumors, lies or deceit that could come between your friendship because you know they love you and ultimately just want what's best for you. It is much easier to look past a person's failures and shortcomings when you know their motives are pure and they truly care for you. The Bible refers to Jesus as a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. Rick Metzger proved to me that this type of friendship was indeed possible. I love you brother! I will miss you more than you'll ever know. Ours was a friendship that is not easily found or duplicated. I pray you rest in peace my friend!
