Mr. Karl Erik "Rick" Metzger's Obituary
A Celebration of Life Service for Karl Erik "Rick" Metzger, 72, of Jacksons Gap, Alabama, will be held Saturday, May 16, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Langley Funeral Home. Rev. Michael Carver and Pastor Jim Helms will officiate.
Rick passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at UAB Palliative Care. He was born on September 29, 1947 in Meridian, Mississippi to Robert E. Metzger and Jennie Piazza Metzger. Rick loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was active in the Dadeville First United Methodist Church especially having a big heart to help others through the Methodist Men’s Group. Rick graduated from The University of Alabama in 1970 with a B.S. in Art and Advertising and was an avid Alabama sports fan. He retired from AEC/PowerSouth as Advertising Coordinator. Rick enjoyed living on Lake Martin, fishing and hunting. He also had a passion for cooking and entertaining others.
He is survived by his wife, Genise Metzger; sons, Erik Metzger (Rebecca) and Jeff Metzger (Hannah); daughter, Lauren Butcher; grandchildren, Beau Metzger, William Metzger, Leah Metzger and Merilee Metzger and brother, Robert E. Metzger, Jr. (Paula).
He was preceded in death by his father, Capt. Robert E. Metzger; mother, Jennie Metzger Carr and stepfather, Leo Carr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Dadeville First United Methodist Church Men’s Group, 140 W. Lafayette St., Dadeville, Alabama 36853 or to one’s favorite charity.
All visitations and services will be held in compliance with the mandated rules from Alabama Dept of Public Health.
