Dr. Stanley Nemec, Jr.'s Obituary
Dr. Nemec passed away Thursday, July 27 in Auburn, Alabama. He was born in St. Louis Missouri, the son of Stanley and Talitha Nemec. Stan is survived by his wife Violet (Farrington) Nemec, daughter Della Easton, Catoosa, OK, son Todd S. Nemec, Guilderland, NY, grandson Lee Easton, Owasso, OK, sister Deanna McFadden, St. Louis, MO, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
After high school, Stan spent 2 years in the Army stationed at Ft. Benning, GA. In 1960 he received his BS in Horticulture from Auburn University, continued his education at Oklahoma State University, and received a PhD in Plant Pathology from Oregon State in 1966 where he worked with the Oregon Department of Agriculture, followed by 6 years at Southern Illinois University researching diseases of strawberries and blueberries. A transfer with USDA to Orlando, FL where he spent the next 34 years in Citrus Research. His work with USAID took him to many parts of the world supporting agricultural growth. During retirement he stayed connected with plants while teaching Botany and Plant Pathology at Valencia Community College in Orlando.
Throughout his life Stan enjoyed sharing with his family Classical Music, fishing, hiking, gold mining, flying his plane, and creating hybrid orchids. An avid reader of Native American and Military History and a fan of St. Louis Cardinals and Auburn Tigers!! In 2006 he and wife Violet moved closer to family in Auburn. Stan volunteered at East Alabama Medical Center. He was a member of Grace UMC in Auburn.
Funeral Service to celebrate Dr. Nemec’s life will be Monday, July 31, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Chapel of Langley Funeral Home. Rev. David Camphouse & Rev. Clay Farrington will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dadeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 31, 2017 from 9:00 am to 9:45 am at Langley Funeral Home.
